The Collision of Two Worlds
The rain in Florence did not wash away the sins of the city; it only made the marble streets slick with them.
Inside the private, underground lounge of the Del Rey estate, the atmosphere was suffocating.
Luca Del Rey sat in a high-backed leather chair, the amber liquid in his crystal glass catching the dim, moody lighting.
At thirty, he was a masterpiece of lethal deception.
His face was flawlessly beautiful-sharp cheekbones, a strong jawline, and eyes so captivatingly dark they looked like a midnight sky.
To the public, he was a savior, a billionaire philanthropist with the face of an angel.
But in this room, surrounded by his men and the heavy scent of cigars, he was the devil they all feared.
The Devil's Decree
A man was kneeling on the Persian rug in front of Luca, shivering and bleeding from his mouth.
He had stolen from the Del Rey empire. A fatal mistake.
"Please, Mr. Del Rey," the man choked out, pressing his forehead against the floor. "I have a family. Have mercy."
Luca didn't blink. He didn't even look down at the man.
He slowly took a sip of his whiskey, the ice clinking softly against the glass.
"Mercy is a concept for the weak," Luca's voice velvety smooth, yet cold enough to freeze the room.
He raised a single finger, signaling his right-hand man.
"Get him out of my sight. And find out who helped him break into the eastern docks. I want names by morning."
The Broken Angel's Night
Miles away, the rain hammered against the small, iron-barred window of Lara's basement room.
She was nineteen, but her body felt a century old.
She was curled into a tight ball on the freezing floor, her arms wrapped around her trembling knees.
Her older brothers had left an hour ago, leaving behind the familiar smell of copper and pain.
Her cheek was pressed against the cold concrete, a fresh cut on her lip still oozing a tiny drop of blood.
Lara looked out at the dark sky through the bars, her large, innocent eyes completely hollow.
She had done nothing wrong today. She had only tried to deliver a message to her father, but her presence alone was enough to trigger their hatred.
"Why?" she whispered to the empty room, her voice a fragile, broken thread.
She didn't hate her brothers. She didn't hate her parents.
Her soul was too pure, too untainted by the filth of this house to hold malice.
Instead, she just felt a profound, exhausting sadness.
She was an angel trapped in the deepest pits of hell, surrounded by demons who shared her last name.
"Please... just let my heart stop," she prayed, closing her eyes.
Every single night, this was her only wish. Death was not a fear to Lara; it was the only savior she could think of.
The Setup
The next evening, destiny pulled its strings.
Lara's father, a man heavily indebted to the wrong people, had called a sudden meeting at a secluded warehouse near the Arno River.
He needed to secure a deal with the city's true ruler to save his own skin.
And as always, Lara was dragged along-not as a daughter, but as a servant to carry the heavy briefcases of documents.
She walked steps behind her father and brothers, her oversized black coat hiding the fresh bandages wrapped tightly around her ribs.
Her head was bowed, her long hair falling over her face to hide the bruising on her jaw.
She kept her eyes on the ground, stepping into the dark, echoing warehouse.
The warehouse doors slammed shut behind them, the sound echoing like a gunshot.
Standing in the center of the room, flanked by four armed guards, was Luca Del Rey.
He stood with absolute authority, hands tucked into the pockets of his tailored trousers.
Lara's father stepped forward, his voice shaking as he began to pitch his illegal transaction, desperate to appease the monster before him.
Luca listened in absolute silence, his expression unreadable, bored by the pathetic display of fear.
His dark eyes scanned the room, entirely unimpressed.
Until they drifted past the father.
Until they landed on the small, trembling figure standing in the shadows behind the brothers.
The First Glance
Luca's gaze locked onto Lara.
Even under the oversized coat, he could see how fragile she was.
But it was her face that made the devil freeze.
Through the strands of her hair, he saw a face of pure, heartbreaking innocence-and the unmistakable shadow of a purple bruise marking her jawline.
She looked up for a split second, her large, tear-filled eyes meeting his suffocatingly dark gaze.
In that single moment, the universe shifted.
Luca felt a strange, foreign pull in his chest-a sudden, violent urge to rip away whatever had caused the fear in those pure eyes.
Lara, terrified by the sheer power radiating from the beautiful stranger, immediately looked down, her body shivering harder.
"Del Rey," Lara's father pleaded, stepping closer to Luca. "The shipment is guaranteed. My sons checked it themselves."
Luca didn't answer. His eyes never left the girl in the back.
"Who is she?" Luca demanded, his voice dropping to a dangerous, low pitch that made the air grow heavy.
Lara's father blinked, confused, looking back at his daughter as if he forgot she even existed.
"Oh, her? She's nobody. Just a useless servant girl we keep around. Don't mind her, Mr. Del Rey. Let's focus on the millions we can make."
One of the brothers, eager to show dominance, roughly shoved Lara forward by her shoulder to make her hand over the briefcase.
"Move faster, bitch," the brother muttered under his breath.
The Spark of War
Lara stumbled from the rough shove, her fractured ribs screaming in agony.
A soft, painful whimper escaped her lips as she fell to her knees, the heavy briefcase clattering onto the dusty floor.
She clutched her side, her face turning pale as she tried not to cry out loud.
The brother raised his hand, instinctively about to strike her for being clumsy in front of their powerful guest.
Click.
The distinct, lethal sound of a gun cocking echoed through the warehouse.
The brother froze, his hand suspended in the air.
Luca Del Rey was standing there, a black matte pistol raised, pointed directly at the brother's forehead.
His angelic face was now a mask of terrifying, demonic fury.
"Touch her again," Luca whispered, his eyes burning with a dark, psychotic fire, "and I will decorate this floor with your brains."
The warehouse went deathly silent.
Lara's father and brothers paled, their breath catching in their throats.
Lara looked up from the floor, her innocent eyes wide with shock, staring at the beautiful devil who was holding a gun for her.
She didn't understand. Nobody had ever protected her before.
Luca slowly lowered the gun, but his eyes remained deadly. He looked at the father.
"The deal is altered," Luca stated coldly. "I take the shipment. And I take the girl. If you object, none of you leave this room alive."
